How does stock syncing work?

This applies to Shopee, Lazada and TikTok

This app is built for sellers who's main shop is on Shopify and who want to expand to Shopee as a channel. That's why the app can track stock changes on Shopee but only through new Shopee orders,

  • if you go into Shopee Seller Center and update Shopee stock over there, it will not be updated on Shopify.
  • if you go into Shopify Admin and update Shopify stock there, then the stock will be updated on Shopee.
  • If you receive an order on Shopee, then the stock will be updated on Shopify.

For example

This is how it we track Shopee stock changes when orders are imported,

  1. Shopify stock is 10
  2. The app updates Shopee stock to 10
  3. Someone creates an order for the product on Shopee
  4. Shopee stock is now 9 because Shopee removes the stock
  5. The app creates a new Shopify order with the product
  6. Because there is a new Shopify order, Shopify stock now goes down to 9

You can always get the inventory history of the variant by following the instructions here: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/sell-in-person/shopify-pos/inventory-management/pos-inventory-history

Frequently Asked Questions

I am using an ERP to manage my stock, will it work with your app?

The app uses the stock on Shopify to update Shopee. As long as the ERP updates Shopify stock correctly the app will send the correct stock to Shopee

If I manually update the stock in Shopee, will it update the stock on Shopify?

No. If you manually update the stock in Shopee, it does not change the stock in Shopify.

Why is my stock not in sync during a Shopee promotion?

Shopee does not allow anyone to update the stock once promotions start.

Scenario 1, Shopee is Sold out:

  1. Shopify and Shopee stock are both at 10
  2. Shopee promotion starts
  3. 10 items are sold on Shopee so both Shopify and Shopee stock are now at 0
  4. 21 items stock are added to Shopify. Shopify now has 21 items while Shopee is still at 0

To prevent this remember that Shopee does not allow anyone to update the stock once promotions start, so if you add more stock to Shopify it will not be shown on Shopee. If you want to add more stock to Shopee, please remove and stop all promotions on Shopee, then force update all your linked Shopee products.

Scenario 2, Shopee is not sold out:

  1. Shopify and Shopee stock are both at 100
  2. Shopee promotion starts
  3. 10 items are sold on Shopee so both Shopify and Shopee stock are now at 90

When the item is well supplied it will look like the stock is synced. But remember that Shopee does not allow anyone to update the stock once promotions start. The stocks only look like they are synced because Shopee is automatically taking out stock from Shopee orders.

Scenario 3, Shopify stock is negative:

  1. Shopify and Shopee stock are both at 10
  2. Shopee promotion starts
  3. 10 items are sold on Shopee and 10 items are sold on Shopify. Now Shopee stock is 0 and Shopify stock is at -10.

This happens Shopee does not allow anyone to update the stock once promotions start. So stock deductions on Shopify are not deducted from Shopee. To fix this I recommend stopping sales on Shopify during Shopee promotions. Or splitting Shopify stock and Shopee stock by using the Shopify Locations feature.

We're really sorry that this is so confusing! I wish Shopee did not block stock updates during promotions but I can see why they need to do it to prevent fraud.
